The opportunity

Architus are partnering with one of the fastest growing Fintechs in Europe to scale their engineering teams and help establish a presence in Lithuania. The company has close to 2000 employees globally, a positive revenue stream and $200m of funding to accelerate their global expansion.

We are currently looking for a Senior Staff Engineer who will be based in Vilnius with a global scope of responsibilities, supporting the international rollout of a digital banking platform in Europe, Asia and beyond.

Positioned at a level between the CTO/Exco and delivery teams, the role is at the intersection of technology, the business, process, people and culture, where you will be operating as a senior technical & organisational leader across a range of themes and initiatives.

What you will be doing

The role will be adjusted to fit an individual's specific experience and skills, so the exact responsibilities will also depend on this. At the Senior Staff Engineer level, you will typically be responsible for leading initiatives across an entire domain, in some cases company wide, and across multiple engineering teams. Here are examples of the key responsibilities the role is likely to cover:​

  • Working closely with senior management up to Exco level to translate business objectives into a tangible engineering roadmap

  • ​Leading technology initiatives across a domain (such as Payments & Banking) and across multiple countries

  • Helping to build and provide leadership for a growing number of engineering teams

  • Guiding and coaching engineers and leading them by example

  • Advocating modern engineering standards and best practices for the delivery of scalable and high-quality software

  • Managing relationships with a range of partners and vendors

  • Supporting the ongoing learning & development of team members 

  • Driving an engineering culture of empowerment, trust, collaboration and technical excellence

Qualifications

Key qualifications outlined below will be used as a guideline, and candidates will be assessed on their overall strength.

  • Leadership experience at a team lead/tech lead level or above

  • Experience of managing and scaling multi-location software engineering teams, ideally in a fast-growing company an advantage

  • Experience of coaching and mentoring engineers

  • Experience in full lifecycle software development from design to deployment, using Scrum or other Agile methodologies

  • Experience building server-side applications with exposure to microservices and implementing and consuming RESTful APIs an advantage

  • A sound knowledge of Java and Java backend frameworks (e.g. Spring/Spring Boot) would also be an advantage

  • You must have sufficient hands-on experience and understanding of engineering best practices and trends to challenge/guide engineers

  • Excellent communication and people leadership skills that can enable you to be the voice of engineering whilst clearly conveying your strategy to your teams

  • Fluent English speaker with excellent spoken and written communication skills
